On 06/09/2023 at 4:25 pm Officer Christian Martin observed a vehicle travelling east on Canonicus Street, a section of roadway designated for westbound only traffic. Officer Martin conducted a motor vehicle stop and identified the driver as Christian Baez, 21, of Fall River, MA. During the course of the motor vehicle stop, law enforcement database records identified that Baez had a nationwide full-extradition warrant originating from the State of Louisiana, charging him with a probation violation related to an aggravated assault incident. In 2021, Baez had been charged by the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana with four (4) counts of attempted second-degree murder for discharging a firearm into a vehicle occupied by his ex-girlfriend, two other individuals, and an infant child. Baez was later convicted of Aggravated Assault with a Firearm in that matter. Baez reported leaving Louisiana just weeks earlier and traveling to Massachusetts where he recently began residing. After conferring with law enforcement officials in Louisiana Baez was arrested as a Fugitive from Justice. Baez was also charged with Driving with a Suspended License and a One Way violation. Baez was ordered held without bail and transferred to the Rhode Island Department of Corrections in Cranston, RI pending his appearance before the Newport Second District Court on 06/12/2023. Outstanding job by Officer Martin!
