Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident

On 03/25/2022 at approximately 2:33 PM the Tiverton Police Department and Tiverton Fire Department responded to the area of 823 Crandall Rd. for the report of a single-car motor vehicle accident.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a 2003 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck on the lawn of 798 Crandall Rd.  The vehicle was found to have heavy front-end damage.   Officers observed the operator to be unconscious and slumped over in the driver’s seat. Tiverton Fire Department personnel quickly arrived on the scene and began to treat the operator.  Tiverton Rescue transported the operator to St. Anne’s Hospital in Fall River MA.  The operator was later pronounced deceased.

The operator and sole occupant of the vehicle was identified as 63-year-old Michael J. Guidry of Acushnet MA.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Mr. Guidry’s vehicle was traveling north on Crandall Rd. when it left the lane of travel, striking a telephone pole on the east side of the roadway.  The vehicle then returned to the roadway, traveled northbound for approximately 400 feet, and again left the lane of travel.  The vehicle entered the lawn of 798 Crandall Rd. where it struck a stone wall and a tree before coming to rest.

Crandall Rd. remained closed between King Rd. and Narrow Ave. for several hours while crews worked to repair the damaged telephone pole.

At this time alcohol and speed do not appear to be contributing factors to this accident.  Investigators are attempting to determine if Mr. Guidry suffered a medical emergency prior to the accident.  The accident remains under investigation by Detective Daniel Martin and Officer Stephen Parrillo, a member of the Department’s Accident Reconstruction Unit.  If you have any information about this accident, please contact Officer Parrillo at 401-625-6717, sparrillo@tivertonpoliceri.com.
