National Background Checks
The Tiverton Police Department provides fingerprinting on Tuesdays from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM
In order to obtain a nationwide criminal background check you must provide the following:
- Completed Application Form: Civil Fingerprint Application
- Conditional Offer of Employment (or other documentation indicating the reason for background check)
- A valid form of a picture identification
- Fee (if applicable)
The Tiverton Police Department will provide fingerprinting for the following:
- Childcare + Day Care center employees
- Adoption Agencies (no charge)
- Foster Care (no charge)
- Massage Therapists
- Medical Marijuana
- Mental Health Facilities
- Firefighters
- DCYF Employees
- School Employees (including 3rd parties)
- Ink Cards
In order to obtain a BCI check you must provide the following:
- Completed Application Form (Civil Fingerprint Appliction)
- A valid form of a picture identification
- Fee
Cost: A National Background Check costs $40.00. Cash, Check, or money order only. Make checks out to the “Tiverton Police Department”.
The Tiverton Police Department does not provide fingerprinting for the following:
- Dept. of Business Regulations
- Financial/Alarm Companies
- Private Security Companies
- Precious Metals/Tools + Electronics
- Nurses/CNA
- Pre-school and Nursery Schools
- Health Care/Nursing Facilities/Adult Day Care Centers
- Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA)
- Child Care + Day Care Owners and Operators
The above fingerprints are done by the Rhode Island Department of Attorney General BCI located at 4 Howard Avenue in Cranston, RI – 401-274-4400.
State Background Checks (BCI)
Due to increased security measures in both the private and public sectors, the need for the State Bureau of Criminal Identification background check, or “BCI” as it is commonly referred to, continues to rise. A BCI is performed using the person’s name and date of birth and is only conducted within the State of Rhode Island. A BCI will not indicate if you have an out-of-state criminal record.
