The Tiverton Police Department is dedicated to ensuring the safety of all motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists who travel on our community’s roadways. Through proactive enforcement, education, and collaboration with state and local partners, the department works to reduce crashes, prevent injuries, and promote responsible driving behavior.
Traffic enforcement is a core function of the Uniform Division, which focuses on identifying and addressing hazardous driving behaviors such as speeding, distracted driving, impaired operation, and red-light violations. Officers use a combination of marked patrol vehicles, radar and laser speed detection, and data-driven deployment strategies to target problem areas and improve roadway safety.
The department also works closely with the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT), Office of Highway Safety, and local schools to coordinate safety initiatives, including:
- School Zone and Crosswalk Safety Enforcement
- Seat Belt and Child Restraint Compliance Checks
- Impaired Driving Enforcement Campaigns
- Speed Awareness and Traffic Calming Operations
- Public Education and Community Outreach Events
In addition, Tiverton Police participate in statewide traffic safety campaigns such as “Click It or Ticket,” “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” and “U Drive. U Text. U Pay.” — all aimed at raising awareness and reducing preventable collisions.
Traffic Concerns and Complaints:
Residents who wish to report recurring traffic issues, such as speeding or dangerous intersections, are encouraged to contact the Tiverton Police Department. Each report is evaluated by command staff to determine enforcement needs or potential referrals to town and state agencies for roadway evaluation.
