PRESS RELEASE 07/11/2022
On 07/08/2022 at approximately 9:50 PM the Tiverton Police and Fire Departments responded to the area of 506 Crandall Rd. for multiple reports of a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival emergency personnel found a 2006 Acura RSX in the yard of that address. Emergency personnel found the operator and only occupant had been removed from the vehicle by several bystanders. He was identified as 24 year old Austin John Medeiros of Tiverton. Medeiros suffered serious injuries and was transported by Tiverton Rescue to Rhode Island Hospital.
According to witnesses the vehicle was travelling north on Crandall Rd. in the area of Blueberry Ln. at a high rate of speed. Witnesses stated the vehicle left the lane of travel and struck a telephone pole on the east side of the road way. The vehicle then continued into the yard of 506 Crandall Rd. and struck a tree.
At the time of this press release Medeiros is listed in critical condition at the Rhode Island Hospital Trauma ICU.
Speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors to this accident. The accident remains under investigation by Officer Stephen Parrillo, a member of the Department’s Accident Reconstruction Team.
