Tiverton Police Department Seeking Applicants for Entry Level Police Officer Positions

TIVERTON — Chief Patrick Jones is pleased to announce that the Tiverton Police Department is seeking qualified candidates for open police officer positions within the department.

The department is currently seeking applicants for open entry level police officer positions. Applications can be found on policeapp.com. Only online applications will be considered. 

The deadline for the Entry Level Police Officer position is Sunday, Sept. 24 at 11:59 p.m.

Minimum application requirements for the Entry Level Police Officer include:

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
  • Must be a United States Citizen
  • Must possess a High School Diploma or GED
  • Must meet at least ONE of the following requirements:
    • Two years of college study from an accredited university and shall provide documentation of the successful completion of at least sixty (60) credits AND/OR
    • Two years of honorable active duty military service AND/OR Four (4) years of honorable Reserve or National Guard Service AND/OR
    • A graduate of the Rhode Island Municipal Academy or its equivalent AND/OR two years of prior full-time municipal public safety / law enforcement experience

The department expects to hire 3-4 recruits during this round of hiring. 

In addition to the Entry Level Police Officer position, the Tiverton Police Department accepts applications for POST Certified Police Officers. There is no deadline for this position and applications are accepted on a rolling basis. 

Through the application process for both position, candidates must successfully complete a Physical Agility Test, Oral Review Boards, a background investigation, a Town Personnel Board interview, a psychological examination and a medical examination, and must receive a recommendation by the Police Chief to the Tiverton Town Administrator and Town Council.
