Results from the Tiverton Police Community Survey on Public Safety and Law Enforcement

Tiverton Police Department

Chief Patrick Jones is pleased to share the results of a community survey on public safety and law enforcement offered by the department earlier this year. The survey responses are meant to help the department measure the quality of interactions with the community and suggestions for the future.

The survey asked respondents 11 questions about their prior interactions with the Tiverton Police Department for traffic issues, emergency calls, non-emergency calls and general interactions at events and in the community, and their satisfaction with those interactions.

Those who reported having contact with the department in one of the above scenarios were asked to rate their experience. Out of five stars, the department received an average of 3.94 on interactions for traffic issues, 4.21 for 911 emergency calls, 4.23 for non-emergency calls, and 4.7 for other general interactions.

The department received 7.56 stars out of 10 through 126 responses for overall satisfaction.

Respondents were also asked to rank nine specialty officers/roles based on perceived need. A Crisis Intervention Team and/or Mental Health Officer was ranked by respondents as the most important, and the department has recently entered into a partnership with Newport County Mental Health.

The survey received 130 responses, 124 of which were from Tiverton residents.

The survey was open during the month of May and was made available on the department’s Facebook page. It was created with the assistance of Stu Gilfillen, Chairperson of the Tiverton Recreation Commission.

The Tiverton Police Department would like to thank everyone who took the time to complete the survey and provide their feedback.
